Violent Crime
2% of us will be the victim of violent crime this year so you have a 5
times greater chance to be a victim of a violent crime than to be
diagnosed with cancer or having a heart attack.

Males are 25% more likely to be victimized than females.  If you are
black, you are 35% more likely to be a victim than white and if you
are interracial you are over 3 times more likely than if you are
white.

There is about a 50/50 chance you will know the attacker.

The older you are the less your chances of being attacked (aka the
safer you are).  People between 12 and 24 have over a 4% chance of
being attacked.
25-24 year olds have a 3% chance of being attacked.
35 to 49 years old have a 2% chance of being attacked.
50-64 years old the chance drop to 1% chance of being attacked
Over 65 years old it drops to below ½%

Weapons are present in about 1/4 of violent crimes.  Weapons types are
almost equally divided between guns, knives, and other weapons.

About 1/3 of the violent crimes will happen at the home or near the home.

Homicide
0.006% (aka 6 out 100,000 /  17,000 in the USA) will be a homicide victim.
78% of the homicide victims were male
About 50% of the homicide victims were white and about 50% black
About 50% of the offenders were white and about 50% black
About 75% of the victims knew their murderers.
About 75% percent involved firearms (Of which the type of weapon was specified)
