Self-Defense for Kids Resources and Success Stories

I invite you to tell us how you defended yourself against school bullies or even adults. Feel free to tell us as well when you were unable to succeed in defending yourself as this too may help others.

As a self-defense instructor, dual certified teacher and father, I believe bullying is one of the most harmful life changing preventable events a child or even adult can face. Please use these resources and share your resources and stories. Bullying and school bullies STOP THIS GENERATION!

My name is Rick Kirkham. I’m the author of When Bullies Attack – Self-Defense Book for Kids. I don’t believe I can put in writing the emotion I feel every time I hear or see a child being bullied. This has to stop.

Feel free to use these self-defense for children, bully protection and bully recognition resources and more importantly, help this stop by adding your own resources and stories….

  1. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.

  3. Wow Rick, what a nice site you have made here.
As a parent of 3 boys and two girls I educated my children to not become bullies themselves.

Perhaps if more parents educated their own children not to become bullies – then their would be less bullies around to contend with in the first place.

Myself personally – I was ruthlessly bullied in junior school because at age 7, I was an immigrant and came to the school without knowing a word of English.

At first, I was teased with name calling – like – “get out of our school you bloody wog!!”

    I ignored the teasing.

Then it turned to stone throwing + name calling.

I dodged the stones and ignored the name calling for around six months.

Then one day 7, 12 year old boys bailed me up on the way home and tried to remove my gold chain and cross from my neck.

The ambulance carted off 7 unconscious boys and I was expelled from the school. [I had been trained in marshal arts since the age of 4 in Israel.]

Through this act I had verified the local opinion that all immigrant children, who came from war torn countries were violent misfits.

From then on my reputation preceded me and I never got bullied by anyone again. Thereafter I got enrolled in 11 schools and expelled as soon as they got the report from the previous schools.

My grandfather home schooled me and I went to university at the age of thirteen. Instead of getting bullied at Uni my peers were really protective and helpful.

Had I not had such a wonderful grandfather my life may have turned out very differently.

    Cheers,

    Kitty.

  4. A very laudable aim; however, what has scarred me more than the bullies bullying me, is the attitude of Teachers and authority figures. Whenever I snapped and retaliated – in my case, verbally rather than physically – it was *I* who got into trouble. I was the one who ended up in detention, I was the one who was labelled a troublemaker… Teachers were all “oh it’s six of one half a dozen of the other” or “I don’t care who started it” – because inevitably they would turn up during the retaliation, rather than the initial act of bullying, and not want to know what caused it. That hurts to this day far more than the actions of a few stupid children.
